No matter how big or small the party, there is a lot of effort that goes into making any event a success. To thank the host for all the effort they put into the party, it’s a nice gesture to bring a thoughtful gift.
A small attention goes a long way to show your appreciation to the host. Personal gifts, meaningful tokens, and useful items are definitely the best choices for thanking a host for having you as a guest.
While I usually try to personalize gifts, sometimes we’re invited to parties, brunches, or special events hosted by acquaintances.
In these instances, if I’m not really sure of what the person likes or don’t know them very well I try to go for a gift that I know almost everyone will be delighted to receive.
These general classic gift ideas come in different price ranges so use your discretion to either elaborate or bring it down a little depending on what style/purpose of the event you’re attending.
Bringing flowers is a wonderful gesture that any host will appreciate. Bouquets are acceptable but why not step it up a notch by arranging them in a beautiful vase or container that can be reused later?
Generally when you are the hostess, if someone hands you a bouquet of cut flowers you have to stop what you’re doing to then take the flowers, chop the stems off and find a vase.
That takes time away from your guests and for this reason, it’s always not always the best idea to just bring regular cut flowers.
Instead, bring the flowers in a vase that the hostess can use right away, when the flowers are gone they’ll have this token to remember you by it.
Another gift that everyone can appreciate is food. Usually, with this type of gift, I like to opt for something extra special, or unusual.
Something like smoked salmon, exotic fruits, or a board of lavish cheeses is always a very good idea, and the host will definitely appreciate your thoughtfulness.
To make it extra special, the same idea as with the flower vase applies. Go the extra mile by arranging a beautiful set-up, perhaps on a board or in a picnic basket.
My favorite types of gifts are personalized items. These work best for hosts you know well as the person will most definitely appreciate the extra effort you put into it.
This can be anything from their favorite scented candle, a beautiful notebook, or an engraved item of some kind.
Engraved cloth napkins, a custom table cloth, or an upscale tableware set are such thoughtful gifts for someone you know enjoys hosting.
Wine is a classic hostess gift choice but I always recommend keeping away from purchasing a bottle last minute or gifting wines you haven’t personally tried.
Instead, try to impress by bringing something that surprises, an undiscovered gem. I often bring bottles from my travels to keep as hostess gifts.
I love sharing the origin story with the gift receiver as this enhances the experience and shows the thoughtfulness behind it.
Seasonality is key. From best florals in season to specialty foods or even personalized gifts, make sure they’re appropriate for the time of the year and the purpose of the party.
These hostess gift ideas work for any party and show great etiquette. It doesn’t matter if the host is a close friend, or someone you haven’t met before.
Giving a gift shows that you care, and the host will be sure to remember that extra thoughtfulness.
