How to Dress Up a Candle – Easy and Fun Idea
Candles are my favorite ambience must-haves. Nothing beats the old school way of lighting a candle with fire when it comes to creating the mood for the room. Somehow led candles or battery candles just don’t do the justice at least not on a table.
Candles can vary from a packet of 5 at ikea for under 100rmb to a couple thousand dollars for a Jo Malone scented one. Whether you want the former or latter you can always dress it up with the simplest tools.
I always love using natural ingredients. Anything that can help you use up what you have left or go stale in the kitchen.
- Oranges or grapefruit (they give great color)
- lemon (tends to brown a lot)
- lime (allow for shrinkage)
- hydrator or oven
Method:
- Slice the fruit as evenly as possible, ideal thickness under 0.5cm (Key: use a sharp knife)
- Line them flat on the hydrator or sprayed baking tray
- If using Hydrator- turn to 135F for 8 to 12 hours or leave it overnight
- If using oven- preheat to 200F and heat to 2 to 2.5 hours (keep an eye in case of burning and flipping will be necessary)
Hydrated fruits are ready when all moisture is removed. You can store them in an airtight container for up to a year. Great for decorations, Christmas décor, cocktail garnish or just spice up your water with it.
Dressing the candles:
- Ribbons of your liking
- 1 Packing string
- 1 hydrated fruit slice
Just wrap the ribbon around the candle and seal with white glue. Slide the fruit into the string and wrap it around the candles a couple times before tying a knot.
Voila!
