This idea came to life while I was putting together a Valentine’s Day table, though it’s a trick I return to throughout the year. I used colored sand in the centerpiece, not as decoration for its own sake, but as a way to anchor the arrangement and give the eye a place to rest. When I design a table, I’m always thinking about how people will feel when they sit down. Will they feel welcomed? At ease? Delighted by the small details that don’t ask for attention but reward it? This simple technique does exactly that. It invites curiosity and creates a quiet sense of care.
