3 Romantic Valentine’s Day Tablescape Ideas

 

With the current state of affairs around the world, it seems that many of us will be enjoying another Valentine’s Day at home. 

 

While going out is a usual go-to for many couples, there are still many fun ways to celebrate the occasion with your loved one(s) even if you are staying in. 

 

From simple and sweet to ultra romantic, a Valentine’s Day tablescape can be a super fun way to show your loved ones how much you care. 

 

In this post I want to inspire you to set your own table at home by breaking down the table setting process in 3 simple steps. 

 

Follow along as I create 3 distinct tablescapes for Valentine’s day, from simple elegant arrangements to gush-worthy statement settings.

 

Create a Valentine’s day tablescape in 3 simple steps 

1. Choose your tablescape theme/colors. 

 

This will be the central element of your tablescape, so choose something you everyone attending can enjoy. 

 

Perhaps you love all things pink and want to celebrate with hearts and flowers. Or maybe you prefer a classic black and white motif because it’s chic and timeless. 

 

For materials, here’s what you’ll need:

• your favorite tableware set 
• cloth or paper napkins
• napkin rings, bought or DIYed
• tablecloth of your choice 
• appropriate glassware 
• accessories 

 

2. Bring your theme to life 

 

With your theme in mind and your supplies ready, it’s time to set your table. Decorating a tablescape is all about personal style so unleash your creativity and make it your own. 

 

Here’s a few ways you can enhance any table 

• Flowers are great for adding color, texture and a touch of freshness to your theme, whether you opt for a centerpiece or smaller vases on the table.
• Candles create warm ambiance while also creating visual interest depending on how they’re displayed.
• Nice silverware & glassware can make even the most simple table look great.
• Napkins & napkin rings can add both color and texture to your table, while also giving a nod to the theme. 

 

I personally like to stay away from very obvious decor elements such as hearts, cupids etc. as these can feel somewhat tacky & overdone. 

 

Instead, I like to nod to the theme in more subtle ways to create a unique & memorable experience. 

3. Go beyond the table to set the mood

 

Finally, take a moment to create the perfect Valentine’s day mood beyond the dinner table. 

 

As much as tableware, linens, the centerpiece, and place settings are an integral part of table setting, one of the most important parts of the tablescaping equation is the setting the mood. 

 

Think about your lighting, the music playing and even the smell & temperature of the room.

 

This final touch will make everything you’ve done so far worthwhile. It sets the scene for a truly romantic night.

 

My 3 Valentine’s day Tablescapes 

 

Now that you’re familiar with the process, I want to share three tablescapes I created and help jumpstart your own plans for Valentine’s Day at home. Don’t be afraid to mix & match ideas as well — it’s about what works for you!

 

Look no. 1 – Intimate dinner in two

 

This first Valentine’s day tablescape is all about classic simplicity.  

 

The colors I chose for this look are black, white & pink for accents. 

 

 

I really love this textured tablecloth as it adds dimension to an otherwise flat surface.  

 

The tableware I used for this tablescape are these funky designed black and white plates layered or simple black under-plates. 

 

 

I used a gold silverware set and brought out my crystal glassware for an elegant look.

 

I then folded the pink cloth napkin into a rose. Here’s a simple tutorial on how to achieve this look.

 

 

Finally I created this lovely decoration using dried flowers as the base, candleholders filled with colored sand and a few fresh Peruvian-lilies. 

 

Look no. 2 – Hello my valentine 

 

For this setting, I wanted to experiment with rich and bold elements. 

 

 

I start off with a patterned pink tablecloth that I layer with a silk table runner and these pretty potted Primroses.

 

This goes to show that any flowers can work for your table settings, even the potted ones you have at home! 

 

 

For this tablescape, I used a white plate with gold rims and paired them with the same gold silverware and crystal glassware from look no.1.

 

 

Last but not least, I arranged my napkin in a simple bow tie fold. 

 

Look no. 3:  I love a pink party 

 

I created this tablescape for a larger party, but these same ideas can be applied to an intimate dinner in two. 

 

The colors I opted for this setting are pink, black and red. 

 

 

What I love most about this table is the contrast between the black plates and leather tablecloth and the opulent centerpiece of tulips. 

 

 

For the napkins, I used a bow tie but elevated the look further by adding quartz plates that double as name tags.

 

 

To create a truly unique setting, consider adding vertical visual interest. In this setting, I achieved this by hanging down branches adorned with more fresh flowers in all shades of pink.  

 

 

To finish off this look, I added tall candlesticks with gold stands that set the stage for a romantic, memorable evening. 

 

 

These three tablescapes go to show that any table can be dressed up to look romantic at home.
